Model 98022
The LiftMaster 98022 replaced the 8500 and 8500W wall-mount (jackshaft) garage door openers. It provides a modern, upgraded solution for secure garage access and serves as the current residential elite-series wall-mount solution.
Key details regarding the replacement:
- Successor to 8500W: While it replaces both, it is frequently cited as the direct upgrade to the 8500W (the Wi-Fi-enabled predecessor).
- Major Improvements: Unlike the 8500 and 8500W, the 98022 no longer requires a cable tension monitor during installation, simplifying setup.
- Lifting Capacity: It can lift sectional doors weighing up to 850 lbs, maintaining or improving upon the performance of previous models.
- Integrated Features: Built-in Wi-Fi, battery backup, and an automatic garage door lock are standard.
Model 6690L
The LiftMaster 6690L (released in 2025) primarily replaces the 87504-267 (Secure View™ Ultra-Quiet Belt Drive). It also serves as a replacement for older Premium Series models, including the 85870 (¾ HP AC Chain Drive) and 87802 (Heavy Duty Chain Drive)
Key Upgrades in the 6690L
- Compared to the older LiftMaster 87504-267, the new 6690L offers several technical improvements:
- Increased Power: Features a 1-1/4 HP equivalent DC motor, up from the 1/2 or 3/4 HP ratings typical of previous generations.
- Improved Visibility: Includes a 360° adjustable camera with a 130° wide-angle lens and 1080p resolution.
- Enhanced Lighting: 2,000 lumens of motion-activated 360° LED lighting.
- New Connectivity: Uses Security+ 3.0 technology for improved encryption and range.
Basic® Series
The classic LiftMaster opener is equipped with essential features for reliable operation.
Model 2220L
The LiftMaster 2220L is a newer model in the Basic Series that primarily replaces the legacy LiftMaster 81600 and LiftMaster 81650 models.
The most common replacements include:
- LiftMaster 81650: A 1/2 HP AC chain drive model.
- LiftMaster 81600: A DC chain drive model.
- Other Legacy Models: A modern alternative to the 81550, 81602, and 83650-267.
Key Upgrades:
- Compared to the older models it replaces, the LiftMaster 2220L offers several modern features:
- Integrated Camera: Unlike the legacy models, the 2220L features a built-in 140° wide-angle camera for live video monitoring through the myQ app.
- Increased Power: It features a 3/4 HP DC motor, providing more lifting power than the 1/2 HP motors found in many older units.
- Security+ 3.0: It uses updated encryption technology to prevent code theft.
- Quiet Operation: The move to a DC motor system generally provides smoother and quieter performance than older AC-powered chain drives
